ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) stands as a titan among global research and development entities, holding the distinction of being Taiwan's largest. Over half a century, ITRI has been instrumental in propelling Taiwan's technology industry forward through pioneering advancements. Beyond its steadfast dedication to technological innovation, ITRI has recently embraced a paradigm shift, adopting a "Consulting Navigation, Strategy Leading" approach. This strategic pivot underscores its commitment to delivering holistic consulting services geared towards achieving industry-wide net-zero sustainability objectives. Central to this initiative is the Sustainable System Development (SSD) framework, meticulously crafted by ITRI to guide enterprises in charting their course amidst the evolving landscapes of digital and green transformation. This comprehensive framework comprises a meticulously structured 5-phase approach, commencing with goal setting and culminating in the formulation of strategic business initiatives.
Illustrating the practical application of this framework, the research delves into two compelling case studies—one situated in Taiwan, and the other in Mexico. In the first case, ITRI collaborates with a prominent local food enterprise to devise a transformative business strategy. Leveraging SSD simulation models, the team explores multiple developmental trajectories over a five-year horizon, facilitating informed decision-making through gap analysis and resource allocation optimization. The second case study revolves around the strategic development planning of a science park. Through the lens of SSD modeling, ITRI prognosticates the operational costs of the science park over a decade. Crucially, the integration of ITRI's green solutions into the modeling process reveals substantial cost-saving potential, reaffirming the efficacy of sustainable practices in bolstering economic viability.
By employing a quantitative SSD modeling approach, ITRI elevates the rigor and precision of its strategy consulting endeavors, empowering clients with actionable insights grounded in empirical data.
